Final Animation Assignment completed

canoe3-0600.jpg

So I had the vision of doing a short canoe animation for my final 3D modeling assignment and I finally completed it about a week ago. You can now view it in the graphic arts section of this site. Most of the video was done in AutoDesk Viz 2007. After that I integrated some still images and a bit of photoshop work. I also integrated some video that I took in my bedroom using a digital camera, a bed sheet, a paddle and my hat. Following the video footage I had to use the choma key function in Ulead's Video Editor to extract the bed sheet background and place me in the canoe I had created. The project was tons of fun, but very time consuming. To make it totally professional I would've needed another 100 hours or so. Anyways, it was fun to integrate a Bruce Cockburn track on canoeing with some video of me canoeing and all the while overlayed on top of the 3D modeling work I did in VIZ. Enjoy :)

New 3D Modelling Video

There's a new 3D modelling video in the graphics section so check it out. Don't forget to turn up your sound, because there's some dramatic music to set the scene. The animations were created in Autodesk Viz 2007, the model was mostly created in ArchiCAD and the video was put together in Ulead's Video Editor. Scope it out and check back here later for more graphic arts.

3D Modelling

So if you haven't caught up with my life, Darlene and I are now living in Calgary and I'm at the University of Calgary pursuing a Masters in Environmental Design - Planning. One of my electives this term is 3D computer modelling. The course is quite fabulous and tons of fun. I've posted a bit of work from my first two assignments on my site from my graphic arts link. Check them out and give me some ideas for my next assignments. One of my aspirations is to do a 3D of my yellow canoe, perhaps also intergrating some animation.

Hacking Issues

So it appears as if my moveable type 3.2 was being hacked quite often. This unfortunate happening made me spend the time to upgrade to 3.3. Hopefully this will fight off the hackers for the time being.
And since I haven't written much here for a long time - keep checking www.jonanddarlene.schmidty.ca

Jon's Adventure Map

Looking to go hiking, canoeing or cycling in Ontario? Having some education and experience with Geographical Information Systems (GIS) I have long wanted to have a map or mapblog component to my website. I have worked a little bit with google maps api components, but I haven't spent enough time to create something to my liking. Well if you can't do it yourself, let someone else! You can now check out my Adventure Map courtesy of Your 'G' Map, which uses google api maps capabilities to map custom locations of your choice.

Here's a screen shot and link to the map.

New graphic design website...

is up and running. Please check out jonathan.schmidty.ca. I've put up a website devoted to my ongoing learning of the field of graphic design. Let me know what you think of the look and how it might be improved for the future. I feel the look is a creative reflection of myself and a few of my skills.
Stay creative :)

Photoshop Filters

I've never really seen the point in so many photoshop filters, but I finally found a cool use for the 'glowing edges' filter. I guess it's not so much a use but a way of using the filter that isn't tacky. I guess it's your call on whether this is tacky or not. The first image is of two loons in Algonquin Park. The second image I used the 'glowing edges' filter which served to emphasize the loons in an artistic fashion that I thought was rather neat.
